Each spring, many people do a deep clean of their homes, but they often miss something important. For the 3.8 million Canadians with asthma, it’s essential to maintain indoor air quality to reduce potential irritants that can trigger asthma and allergies.

“Springtime is the perfect storm for people with allergies and asthma,” says Joyce Yee, a certified respiratory educator with Asthma Canada. “Indoors, you can have triggers like dust, pollen, and pet dander, plus volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from things like cleaning products.”

Breathe easier with a purifier that has sealed high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters and activated carbon filters. “It’s a standardized way to remove irritants,” Yee explains. “They catch 99.7% of allergens as small as 0.3 microns.”

Not sure what to buy? Look for products that will purify your whole room and the asthma & allergy friendly™ Certification from Asthma Canada and Allergy Standards Ltd. As Yee points out, “It’s important for consumers to stay informed about what impacts allergies and asthma.”
