Our skin is our largest organ and what you put on it soaks directly into your bloodstream. Many people are increasingly concerned with eating organic, working out and living a healthy lifestyle, but many don’t realize that there are likely tons of chemicals and toxins in the products they’re using on their skin daily.
Read about why Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr is advocating for certified organic labels and products, and how she’s redefining the clean beauty movement with her brand, KORA Organics.
Mediaplanet: Why is clean beauty important to you, and why did you start KORA Organics?
Miranda Kerr: There is a misconception that organic, or ‘clean beauty’ may not be as powerful as more conventional products. Not only is that untrue, but I believe that certified organic beauty (like KORA) is even more powerful than clean beauty. The results speak for themselves, as shown in our consumer studies, which you can find on the top of our hero products and on our website. We’ve created powerful certified organic products that give people the results they need in a healthy way — and I’m so proud of that.
In creating KORA Organics, I was inspired to take a 360-degree holistic approach to overall wellness because I believe the health of our mind, body, and skin are all connected, so we need to address all three aspects for the best results. Our philosophy at KORA is to feed your MIND with positive affirmations and self-love, feed your BODY with the nutrients it needs to function at its best, and feed your SKIN with products to help detoxify, nourish, and revitalize it.
Our products are not only healthy to use and of the highest quality, integrity, and efficacy — they also aim to inspire and uplift customers. KORA Organics encourages you to take a moment out of your busy day to look after yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally.
What do you think is the most important lesson to pass on to readers?
Learn to read ingredient labels and be aware of what’s contained in products, as ‘clean’ beauty holds various definitions depending on the criteria of what a brand or company has decided is on their ‘clean’ ingredient list.
The clean beauty movement is definitely a step in the right direction, but the beauty industry is still unregulated so a product can market itself to be clean, natural, or even organic but still contain chemicals or fragrances that can be harmful to you.
I feel it’s important for everyone to do their research, learn how to read ingredient lists, know what their products contain and what to avoid, and make an educated choice about what they’re putting on their skin.
What do you think consumers should consider when picking out beauty products?
Choose certified organic if you have the choice. Also, less is more — you don’t need a beauty cupboard full of different products. You just need a handful of products that are suited to your skin type and tailored to any specific skin concerns.
What’s your go-to beauty product that you can’t leave the house without, and why?
For skincare, it would be our hero product, the Noni Glow Face Oil. It contains certified organic noni extract, rosehip oil, pomegranate oil, and sea buckthorn oil to create a rich source of antioxidants and essential fatty acids to smooth, nourish, hydrate, and brighten your skin. It’s transformative, anti-aging, super hydrating, and also reparative — I use it religiously each night and never travel without it. It’s great to apply throughout flights to keep my skin hydrated and protected from the drying effects of the cabin.
We undertook consumer studies and I’m so proud of the results: 93% noticed their skin appeared more even-toned, with enhanced clarity after 2 weeks, 100% saw noticeable improvement in elasticity after 4 weeks, and 93% saw noticeable improvement in the visible appearance of skin imperfections after 4 weeks.
For beauty, it would be our Noni Lip Tint. When you’re in a rush or don’t have a lot of makeup with you, you can use this on your lips, cheeks, and eyelids — I do it all the time! I specifically developed this tint for a multipurpose use.
