Many Canadians don’t realize that despite the winter season, safeguarding their skin from the sun is still vital. Using sunscreen is necessary even on overcast days, as UV rays can still cause damage to the skin. However, with all the new skin care and sun protection products now available, how do you keep your skin healthy this winter? It doesn’t have to be complicated. The Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) has a great gift to make shopping for products easier!
Just Look for the Logo during this winter season. The CDA has a Recognized Product Program which has been in existence for over 30 years and has helped Canadians make easy and informed decisions about their health by taking the guesswork out of finding safe and effective products for themselves and their families. The Recognized Product Program acknowledges skin care, sun protection and makeup that:
- Are broad-spectrum with a SPF 30 or higher for sun protection
- Have low potential for irritation
- Are minimally perfumed or non-perfumed
- Do not clog pores or cause acne
The CDA’s Skin Health Program recognizes over 160 moisturizers, creams, and cosmetics that are reviewed by a panel of expert dermatologists who follow the most recent scientific advancements to help Canadians and their families enjoy the safest skin care products available. The CDA’s Sun Protection Program includes over 60 products with SPF 30 and above, to ensure adequate sun protection for Canadians, emphasizing safety and minimal irritation potential.
“Canadians can trust that the products the CDA’s Skin Health Program reviews and approves will deliver expected results with little to no risk of skin irritation or allergy. Look for the Logo is an ongoing initiative by the Canadian Dermatology Association that helps guide consumers pick personal care products that satisfy Dermatology standards,” said Dr. Sandra Skotnicki, a CDA member and Certified Dermatologist in Toronto, and author of Beyond Soap.
In early December, the CDA launched a “#LookForTheLogo” contest to help consumers choose sunscreen, skin health and makeup products that meet the criteria of our expert panel.
Participants are encouraged to upload original photos or videos showcasing the CDA Recognized Skin Health and Recognized Sun Protection logos on trusted products. For more information and to review the contest rules and guidelines, click here.
